Curiosity is sure to be aroused when two well-known musicians work together on a project. The mention of Lennon and McCartney simply serves to fuel that curiosity.

The melancholic, serene song “Primrose Hill” was co-written by James McCartney and Sean Ono Lennon. These two are the youngest remaining members of one of the greatest songwriting teams in history. The couple appears to be very similar to their well-known Beatles fathers in an Instagram photo that McCartney shared. Sean Ono Lennon was born in 1975, five years before his father passed away suddenly. Since the 1990s, he has worked with bands like Cibo Matto and his mother, Yoko Ono, to establish a respectable but varied musical career. Earlier this year, Rolling Stone described his most recent album, Asterisms, as “a genreless blend of instrumental music.”

James McCartney, the late Linda McCartney’s son, is two years younger than Lennon. He started his career in the late 1990s by lending a hand with his parents’ projects, and it wasn’t until ten years later that he put out his own songs. He said on Instagram that the song was inspired by a fond childhood memory.””As a child in Scotland, I had a vision on a beautiful summer day,” “”Letting go, I saw my true love and my savior. Finding this person and starting this trip together is the essence of Primrose Hill.””

Paul McCartney posted a message of gratitude for the song on his Facebook page, saying, “”many thanks to Sean Ono Lennon.”” Less than 40,000 listens in its first five days on Spotify may not surprise many people who are leery of celebrity collaborations, but the song does have a warm, homey vibe to it that is reminiscent of his father’s soul. It’s a charming homage to their remarkable past, but perhaps this is how things were meant to be: a modest, courteous, and small presentation.
