When the animal protection officers realized the animal was actually a flaky viennoiserie pastry, they said they were “almost swept off their feet by a laughing attack.”.

Upon receiving a complaint about an odd animal squatting in a residential area, animal protection workers in Krakow, Poland initially thought it was a late April Fool’s joke.

They were phoned by a woman who described the “creature” as having been “sitting in a tree across the road for two days” and who had “desperation in her voice”.

“Everyone is scared of him!” she begged the authorities to look into the matter.

“People aren’t opening their windows because they’re afraid it will go into their house,” she stated.

However, contrary to what the officers had assumed, the beast was actually a croissant.

The authority stated on Facebook, “This is not a description of an April Fool’s joke—such a report really came to us.”

The caller claimed the animal was not a large bird, and the officer—who goes by the name “Inspector Adam”—describes the incident in a humorous manner, suggesting the animal might have been an iguana.

He added, justifying his choice to visit the scene, “Years of inspection have taught me that there are people willing to get rid of any animal that causes trouble.”

“Perhaps an iguana was thrown out,” he speculated. “How does this critter feel after spending two nights in below zero temperatures? Perhaps he’s sitting still in that tree since he recently passed away?”

After a brief search at the Krakow estate, the officer and his companion witness the “brown creature sitting on a lilac branch” with its “brown coat shining in the sun” during their visit.

Adam bemoaned, “The poor guy had no legs or head.”

He claimed that upon realizing the animal was, in reality, a flaky pastry, the two were “almost swept off their feet by a laughing attack”.

Following their humorous post, the authority sent out a more somber statement advising the public to always report animal sightings that they are concerned about if they have any doubts.

“It’s better to check and be pleasantly disappointed, sometimes (unfortunately very rarely) laugh, than not react, which can sometimes lead to a tragedy,” they said.
