Nicholas Foxx, a resident of Roanoke, told Virginia Lottery authorities that he chose to stop at the A1 Mini Mart on Main Street to purchase an energy drink while he was in Altavista visiting relatives.
Foxx ultimately purchased some scratch-off lottery tickets, and the top prize in one of the games, 20X the Money, ended up being $1 million.
As Foxx recounted, “I thought I was reading it wrong,” “You don’t know anyone who’s hit the lottery for that amount of money!”
Foxx made the decision to take $625,000 before taxes as a one-time lump sum payment for his win.
Whether he has any plans for his riches was not disclosed.
