The SPCA must find homes for hundreds of abused, abandoned, or simply forgotten dogs each year. This group of animal enthusiasts in New Zealand made the decision to demonstrate that, despite being mutts, the dogs are intelligent. Three shelter canines have been being trained to operate a Mini Cooper.

Mark Vette, a qualified zoologist, animal psychologist, and team director, serves as the primary “driving coach.” To teach the dogs the fundamentals of stopping and moving forward, they created a driving simulator that can be used indoors. For the drivers to be able to reach the pedals, the Mini Cooper itself had to be altered.

The rescue dogs’ formal road test will be broadcast live in Aukland.

One of the trainers remarked, “Animals this intelligent deserve a home.” The three dog drivers are still available for adoption.
