When a missing dog from an English family not only made it home, but also brought a ribbon from a nearby dog show, they were shocked.
On a Sunday morning, Bonnie, the family’s five-year-old beagle-mix, vanished, leaving Peter and Paula Closier distraught. As their neighbors joined in the frantic hunt, they contacted the police, dog wardens, and thoroughly searched their West Sussex home.
Peter saw that the gate had been left ajar, and things looked bad. They had no idea, though, that John Wilmer, who was traveling to a dog show in Surrey to compete with his own two dogs, had noticed Bonnie.
Paula was relieved to see a Facebook post from John asking for Bonnie’s owners. John had posted a picture of Bonnie along with a request for information, in his haste to go to the dog show. In addition, he made the choice to enter Bonnie in the “Best Rescue Dog” competition.
Amazingly, Bonnie brought a third-place ribbon back to her family!
“We found it unbelievable,” Peter remarked. “It resembles something from a story.”
Recuperated from the streets of Crete at the age of one, Bonnie had never before participated in a competition. The Closiers are happy with this surprising turn of events but now regret not pursuing it sooner.
