Responses “Fefé,” a new alcohol-free dog scent from Dolce & Gabbana, was created with inspiration from Domenico Dolce’s personal poodle. The perfume is certified for use on animals and costs 99 euros ($108) for a 100-milliliter (3.4-ounce) bottle. It is made in accordance with the Safe Pet Cosmetics policy, which attempts to provide safety standards comparable to those for human products.

Dolce & Gabbana claims that Bureau Veritas Italia has acknowledged the scent, highlighting the company’s dedication to producing goods that are both secure and considerate of animals. For a range of industries, Bureau Veritas Italia offers certification and inspection services.

According to the company’s website, vets recommend the product and dog owners find the aroma to be “gentle and well accepted by their pets.” Veterinarians, however, are dubious about the use of perfumes on dogs due to worries that they could impair the animal’s sense of smell or cover up smells that might be signs of medical problems.

Concerns were raised by Rome-based veterinarian Federico Coccía, who noted that dogs identify and recognize items and people by scent. He made it clear that changing a dog’s natural scent could make it more difficult to diagnose some conditions, such sebaceous dermatitis, for which the scent is a useful diagnostic tool.

Some pet groomers and owners are in favor of using pet perfumes despite these reservations. Rome-based groomer Aliof Rilova Tano feels that a small amount of scent makes dogs that live with their owners more comfortable. Pet owner Mariarita Ricciardi concurs, valuing any natural fragrance that enhances her dog’s fur quality. On the other hand, dog owner Francesca Castelli believes that the fad of branded perfumes for pets is needless and contributes to the humanization of animals.
