An Australian warehouse was the victim of a theft earlier this year involving 63,000 special edition Bluey coins, according to the police.

Australian police have recovered over forty thousand coins that were stolen and were modeled on the popular children’s television show Bluey.

According to the New South Wales Police, the cartoon money was discovered in a trove of Royal Australian Mint bags during a search of a Wentworthville self-storage facility.

The mint struck one-dollar (or fifty pence in the UK) coins portraying the show’s cartoon characters earlier this year. You can think of them as legal tender.

Authorities in Wetherill Park, New South Wales, reported the theft of 63,000 of the limited edition coins from a warehouse on July 12th. The coins were supposed to be circulated for months before the theft.

On June 6, 2024, in Canberra, Australia, spectators eagerly await the unveiling of the Bluey Commemorative Coin.

On June 6th, a pair of commemorative coins showcasing characters from the beloved Australian television series “Bluey” were produced by the Royal Australian Mint. To get their hands on the set, hundreds of people waited in line outside the Canberra Temporary Mint Coin Shop before it opened at sunrise.
These coins are legal tender in Australia and have a face value of one dollar.
The New South Wales Police have confiscated several bluey coins.

The theft of 63,000 coins occurred in July from a Wetherill Park facility.
The blue dollarbucks have gone for 10 times their original price on eBay, with a seller offering a set of three for nearly 600 AUD (£309).

On Tuesday, the police team probing the theft, Strike Force Bandit (named after Bluey’s dad in the program), found 40,061 of the stolen coins.

The storage facility was searched by officers, who reportedly found power equipment, clothing, and bags that were thought to have been stolen.

The July warehouse robbery has allegedly implicated three individuals, who have thus far faced charges.

Bluey, which has now become one of the most watched programs globally, had its Australian premiere in 2018 and its UK streaming debut on Disney+ in 2020.

After a mysterious season finale caused parents to fear the program could be cancelled, a producer promised viewers in April that Bluey will return with additional episodes.

In an interview with the BBC Radio 4 Today program from back in the day, Sam Moor said, “It’s just the question that’s on everyone’s lips—no, it’s not the end for Bluey; I’m sure we’ve got many more surprises in store for you.”
