Unusual Turn of Events: Man Meets Doppelganger While Flying and Discovers More Than Just a Name

Two individuals who shared the same name, appearance, and background happened to be sitting next to one other on a flight in a stunning instance of serendipitous seating. Mark Garland was originally perplexed to hear from airport personnel that he had already checked in when traveling from Heathrow to Bangkok. As it happened, two Mark Garlands were on the same flight.

Garland and his twin were shocked to discover that, in addition to having identical appearances, they were also very similar. The two males, who were 58 and 62 years old, respectively, had shaved heads and wore similar outfits. They learned that, although the younger Garland occasionally took the older’s bus route, they actually lived only 34 miles apart.

The two Marks—single dads with four kids—even discovered they had a friend in common: the younger Garland’s colleague, who hangs out at the same bar as the elder Garland. Most astonishingly, both had been to Thailand more times than they could remember and had a strong affinity for it.

“We were amazed by how peculiar it was,” the younger Garland remarked. “The entire time, we smiled and laughed.”

The elder Garland agreed, expressing amazement at the strange coincidence. “It was amazing,” he remarked. “I believed that I was the target of a practical joke.”

By the time their flight was over, the two Marks were close friends. The bus driver even took a quick snooze on his new friend’s shoulder. They have promised to remain in touch and have decided to meet up for a beer in Thailand. “I’ve found a lifelong friend,” he declared.
