A recent survey found that more dog owners had a “instant connection” with their animal companion than with their own partners.

87% of dog owners who are in committed relationships said they believe in “love at first sight” with their pets more than they do with people, according to a survey of 2,000 dog owners.

Compared to 69% of respondents who stated the same about their partner, 80% of respondents claimed to have an instant connection with their dog.

Nevertheless, 5% of respondents stated that bonding with their dog takes time. Because they didn’t click straight away, some people had wondered if adopting their pet was the correct choice.

The link between a 74% of respondents and their dog is stronger since it was developed over time, indicating that the wait was worthwhile.

Furthermore, 76% of respondents claimed that food is their “love language” and that they feed their dogs with great care.

Talker Research ran a poll on behalf of The Honest Kitchen, which asked participants if there was anything they would have liked to know before adopting a dog.

A few respondents expressed their wish that they had known about “the true investment of time” that owning a dog entails, noting that “they are literally like raising children.”

One person who responded to the study remarked, “It feels like watching a child grow up, but you know you’re going to outlive them.”

One respondent expressed astonishment at how much they love their dogs, adding, “I would have gotten one sooner,” wishing they had known how much joy they could bring.

In fact, 83% of respondents claimed that, in spite of the difficulties, owning a pet had exceeded their expectations. And even though owning a dog is messy and not always simple, the same amount of people said they wouldn’t trade their dog-owning experience for anything.

Miki Dosen, CMO of The Honest Kitchen, stated, “Having a dog has many benefits, but we wouldn’t be honest if we didn’t acknowledge how hard it can be, too.”

“Pet parents are probably in for some surprises along the way—remember that no two pets are alike, whether it’s their first or their fifth.”

“In the end, what makes it one of the most meaningful relationships people have in their lives is the whole experience, with all of its highs and lows.
